The inconclusive battle between a cobra and a mongoose caused a traffic jam in a village in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh for a long time.

The dramatic battle that took place on September 11 between the two animals began in the bushes, then dragged out in the middle of the road running through the village of Ibrahimpur in the city of Bilari, Moradabab district in northeastern Uttar Pradesh, according to Newscrunch. While the cobra is always on the defensive, the mongoose is aggressive and constantly attacks the opponent.

Both animals were focused on the battle and didn’t pay attention to the traffic passing around. The mongoose seems determined to take its opponent’s life, while the cobra tries to preserve its life.

Many passersby stopped and huddled to watch the rare sight, causing traffic jams on the road. Human attention forces the mongoose to stop hunting and walk away. The cobra remained in place on the road until some brave villagers shooed it into the bushes to clear the way for traffic.

The Indian gray mongoose (Herpestes edwardsii) is the arch-rival of the cobra, one of the most venomous animals in the world. Due to being faster and stronger, mongoose specializes in hunting cobras for food. Some people think that mongooses are immune to snake venom, but experts have not confirmed this.
