These pictures show the unanticipated connection that has grown between a warthog and two baboons that enjoy riding on his back. When the animals first met at Zɪᴍʙᴀʙᴡᴇ’s “Free to be Wild” wildlife rehabilitation center, they immediately felt a special bond.

When baby warthog Bangwe and his sister were discovered in a river during a flood, they were sent to the facility where they met baboon Umfazi, who had already spent a year there.

Four years after her mother was cruelly ᴋɪʟʟed on a farm, the baby baboon was saved at just a few weeks old. The monkey and his mate frequently ride on each other’s backs and even cuddle up for a nap in the late afternoon.

According to Baye Elisabeth Pigors, 24, the organization’s founder and veterinary nursing student, Umfazi rode Bangwe from the start as a source of warmth and comfort. The other baboons soon started riding him as well.

It is hilarious to see them communicate and play together since it seems like neither of them is aware that they are from different species. Naturally, this leads to a ғɪɢʜᴛ when Bangwe becomes stranded at the base of a tree while baboons decimate another tree.

According to Baye Elisabeth Pigors, the friendship started because they are both outgoing, friendly beings who were drawn to one another since they required personal interaction in an unfamiliar setting.
