“Incredible Intervention: The Male Lion’s Jaw-Dropping Move Amidst Buffalo Battle”
In the herd, the female lion is usually in charge of hunting and the male lion is responsible for protecting the whole herd from danger or destroying competitors. Each flock will have two to three adult males living with the females. They are often brothers, or newly admitted to the herd, forming alliances to protect their offspring.
Lions are super predators and top carnivores thanks to their abundant prey populations. However, contrary to popular belief, male lions do not often hunt, but females are the main hunters.
Their primary prey is other mammals, especially medium to large ungulates, including plains zebra, wildebeest, wildebeest, and antelope. Gemsbok, giraffes, hippos and even juvenile African bush elephants.
In the clip, a lioness is jumping on the back of an adult buffalo and trying to knock down her prey. Surprisingly, the male lion nearby just watched the female lion struggle alone with the buffalo without coming in to help.
Witnessing this scene, most tourists were surprised by the male lion’s reaction to his mate. In the end, despite her best efforts, the lioness still could not defeat the giant prey.
