The moment the lightning-fast cunning python came out of the water hole to grab and curl around the baby deer as it drank with the herd
A python leapt out of a pool and caught a tiny deer in its jaws as it bent down to drink water in India.
The unlucky animal was with several other members of its herd as they stopped to rehydrate at the pool of water in Maharashtra, in the west of the country.
CCTV footage shows how the deadly snake sensed its opportunity and jumped with lightning speed at the deer – plunging its fangs into its head.
The video begins with the herd of four drinking calmly before they appear to be spooked and move their heads up in alert.
They then calm down again and carry on drinking when the hidden snake strikes, with the force of the attack sending the deer flying.
The python then coils around the deer as it strangles it on the muddy banks of the swamp in the Karwa forest.
The two animals then fall back into the pool of water as the struggle continues and the python eventually swallows its victim.
The Central Chanda Forest Department released CCTV footage on November 21 showing the shocking incident.
