Baby monkeys have been beaten, thrown into a lake and tortured to death in horrifying videos posted to YouTube.

The abusive clips show terrified monkeys dressed in nappies and baby clothes while being tortured.

In videos found by The Sun Online the small creatures are seen being smacked, throttled and killed.

One showed a man boasting how he made a baby monkey ‘super loud cry’ while he choked her and another showed a monkey being held upside down and slapped.

Another monkey is seen clinging to her owner’s hand before he throws her into a lake so she can ‘learn to swim’.

The online news site found a YouTube playlist called ‘Kill baby monkeys’ containing 112 videos of abuse.

Lots of the videos show baby monkeys being forced to walk upright on two legs – something that can be extremely damaging to their spines.

And some YouTube creators force monkeys to participate in mock drama programmes which see newborn creatures put in different scenes that can end up in them being killed.

According to the online news site these types of videos appear to be common in Cambodia.

And trend emerging from south Asian countries appears to be for owners to separate baby monkeys from their mothers and placing them with other adult monkeys who reject and sometimes kill them.

Animal rights organisation PETA told the Sun Online: ‘YouTube existing policies should see these horrific channels taken down immediately, but their content moderation – and response to PETA – has been lacking.’

One offender, Rian Mardiansyah, is accused of setting off firecrackers near baby monkeys, making them fight each other and getting children to beat them.

He allegedly filmed the abuse and posted it to YouTube while asking for donations.

A YouTube spokeswoman said: ‘YouTube guidelines prohibit content featuring violence – this includes animal abuse.

‘Any flagged content found to violate our policies is removed from YouTube immediately. Upon review, both channels have been terminated for violating our Community Guidelines.’
