An unsuspecting troop of playful monkeys are caught off guard when a sleeping tiger pounces out of nowhere.

39-year-old industrialist Narayan Malu witnessed this very rare sighting. The captured footage and story was shared with LatestSightings.com.

“We were waiting nearby a waterhole, while a group of langur monkeys were lying around it. Going about their day. They often frequent these waterholes to drink water and consume the various food varieties on offer in the vicinity.”

Langoor monkeys are arboreal creatures that spend the majority of their time in the trees. They do not only use trees as a safe haven but also as a means of nourishment. The languor monkeys’ diet will consist of mostly leaves and occasionally minerals from the earth.

“This particular waterhole is a frequent visiting location for a particular tigress. We were searching for her but did not expect much as the monkeys were already present and they seemed very relaxed.

Tigers are considered to be among the big cats of the world. Despite their large size and body mass, tigers are very well-equipped when it comes to camouflage. The dense forest ground offers the ideal hiding spots for these cats.

“Then, from the corner of my eye, I noticed a slight movement. Upon further inspection, I was pleased to see it was the resident tigress. She was well covered and hidden beneath the foliage that surrounded the water hole. My hopes were not high for any action, but nevertheless, I prepared myself and got my equipment ready.”

“Suddenly we noticed a tigress stalking them. Within no time, the tigress pounced upon an unsuspecting monkey, and the fatal blow was struck. The tigress then carried her prize off into the foliage and began consuming the monkey.”

Tigers are expert hunters and will make the most of any opportunity. Their diets vary from small primates to medium-sized antelopes. Hunting for tigers normally takes place under cover of darkness. They will, however, hunt in daylight if the opportunity presents itself.

“Once the chaos unfolded, the entire forest echoed with the howls and screeches of confused monkeys. This tested for a brief moment, and then, as if nothing had transpired, the entire forest returned to silence.”

The whole scene was captured at the famous Bandhavgarh Tiger Reserve, located in the state of Madhya Pradesh in central India.
